Art

Art has being a major focus in our class recently. We have made 3D rainforest collages, reinforcing the importance of the environment. Students also looked into the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian and painted individual and group paintings in Mondrian style. Over the last few weeks we have been focusing on painting techniques such as blended background and introducing a light source. Students painted their own “Family” canvas for display at Centro Cranbourne.

This week we celebrated Cool Australia’s Enviroweek at school, by being ambassadors. We were given t-shirts by Cool Australia to help identify students who were participating. Students modelled litter pick up around the school, especially the canteen area. They were also on hand at recess and lunch time to answer any questions by students and staff. Well done 4T. Pictured above in their t-shirts and our Nude Food Warriors.

Term 3 Inquiry – Science – Forces

This term we are studying a science unit on Force and Motion. We hope our students will gain experience in the following.

  • Understand that simple machines make amusement park rides move
  • Identify, investigate and answer a personal question about how amusement park rides move
  • Understand how moveable parts work
  • Identify key features of rides, such as the moveable parts
  • Understand how a pulley and axle work
  • Identify rides that have gears
  • Research how roller coasters move
  • Understand how a ferris wheel works
  • Make predictions about amusement parks in the future
  • Be able to design and create a model of a ride that moves

Microgreens

We have been investigating ‘How Our Environment Sustains Life’. After looking at different ecosystems and habitats students began looking into plants and their role as a resource. Their investigations lead them to Air Purifying Plant for the classroom and plants we can use to sustain our food source. Growing Microgreens  in the classroom  was a natural progression. Once the plants were at a stage where we could harvest them, students chose recipes incorporating their particular flavours. We had a Master Chief style cook up and in groups students made, carrot and coriander juice, strawberry and sorrel smoothie, ciabatta and mini hamburgers. Mr Mac and Mr sharp were our judges and both voted the ciabatta as the best tasting.IMG_4963 IMG_4973

Blogging Rules and Guidelines

The blogs are a way for us to share our ideas and our learning with other people; including the parents of our school community. This means that it is very important that we understand how to use our blog and the internet in a safe way. These guidelines have been put together to promote online safety to our students when blogging.

  • Students will only be identified by first names. All comments should have first names only. Students are NOT to give out and personal information about themselves or other people (such as surnames, addresses, phone numbers, email accounts etc.)
  • Parents who leave comments are asked not to use last names either. (Please comment as ‘Johnny’s Dad’, ‘Jill’s Mum’ etc.
  • All comments submitted have to be approved by the class teacher before they are included on the blog. Inappropriate or sloppy writing will not be approved.
  • Please proof read comments carefully. Students should have a family member check for spelling mistakes before submitting a comment.
  • Always write in full sentences and please do not use text talk.

Foam Printing

imageA print is created when one surface comes into contact with another surface, leaving a mark or impression.

Patterns, lines or textures produced by an artist on surfaces such as foam are inked or painted and then transferred to another suitable surface such as paper.

This process of making artwork usually allows images to be multiplied many times.

Students in 4T studied images of cityscapes and then drew their own ideas. They transferred their designs onto printing foam. They then practised printing multiple times experimenting with technique and colour schemes. Before printing their final copy.
